  1. The photo I choose for the cover of Son of Italy was the picture at 1:23 where everyone was sleeping on the floor and they only had one furnace to prepare food. In the book there was a scene where when everyone comes back from their job they would make food on the furnace with firewood and then go to sleep.

    1. Hi Annie,
I took the same photo and I agree with you.
      Thanks.

    2. This picture is also a very good choice. I was stuck between this one and the one I chose. They both represent the book very well and feel like a scene from The Son of Italy.

    3. I like the photo that you chose, as it depicts a specific episode from the book rather than an overall general idea. Although, I do not think it would serve well as the cover picture for the book.

  2. Picture at 1:16. I chose this photo from "The Way They Lived" because it shows the unbearable living conditions. Many Italians had to sleep in small close areas together. In addition, the people in the picture have a look of distress. This is exactly how they lived.

  3. The photo that I would choose for the cover of Son of Italy is the photo around 1:15. The reason I chose this is not only because it describes the kind of conditions that Italians had to live in but also because it reminds me of Pascal and his gang living together.

  4. The photo that I would choose for the cover of Son of Italy is the picture at 1.03, that picture represented the room that Pascal and his family slept in and the bed was exactly small. Italians are stronger people.

  5. I took the photo on minute 1:21. It shows the conditions people lived in and a good feel for what the book may entail. Pascal and the people around him endured painful things, their living conditions being one of them.

  6. The screenshot that I took is 1:23. I chose it because it shows the living conditions of the immigrants from Italy living and surviving in America in most worst state one could possibly imagine. It tells the suffering and I feel is the crux of the Son of Italy too. The true representation if Italians surviving in America.

  7. The picture shown at 1:15 that shows may Italian men in a small room that is a mess. Several men are crammed into one small bed while others lie on the floor. This seems to be a very accurate depiction of the conditions in which Pascal and his gang were living. We can also see pots and pans at the side. This is also something Pascal mentions, a few times, as some of their only possessions. All the men in the picture look very tired and worn out as Pascal and his gang were.

  8. I chose the photo that appears at the 1:28 mark. Pascal mentions being in an area with the other workers after hours, struggling just to prepare food. This image is the closest resemblance to how I imagined those scenes. Te image appears to be a cluster of men who might've been "pick and shovel" workers, and it shows what a struggle their lives must have been by having to work tirelessly just to end their shift and have to share a living space.

  9. The photo I chose is the one of the little kids working in the field looking at the camera, at minute 3:50. The reason I chose this picture is because I saw the sadness in the faces of the children. The way they had to work to be able to live. Children should be playing and enjoying their young life, these children look like they have so much pain and responsibility over their shoulders, which really spoke to me and showed me the way these children “lived”.

  10. I chose the first scene of hundreds of people on the ship coming to America. I chose this out of all the scenes because it showed that they all knew before coming to the country that they would be in terrible conditions, even starting with the ship. In the Son Of Italy they all knew before coming to America that they would be faced with hard times but I believe they got a glimpse of the hardships that were going to follow in their lives from the ship. The ship is where all the Italians started off in and it is just a matter of how each individual the book wants to end their journey in America.

  11. The image that I chose to serve as the cover of Son of Italy was the image at 0:42. I believe that this image grasps the full message of the book. I chose this picture because when the Italians first came to America they lived in close proximities to each other. His picture shows how “close” these proximities were actually. The apartments are on top of each other will no room for privacy.
